Hi, I’m Kimberly Baker, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I grew up in Virginia and spent 23 meaningful years as a high school and community college English teacher. I hold a B.A. in English Education from Longwood University and an M.A. in English from Old Dominion University. Teaching taught me how to listen deeply, connect with people from all walks of life, and support others through times of growth and change—skills that naturally led me to a second calling: counseling.
After retiring from education, I returned to school to earn my M.Ed. in Family and Couples Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. Today, I hold licenses as both an LGPC and LGMFT in Virginia and Washington, D.C. as well as Life Coaching Certification, and I’ve built a thriving telehealth practice where I work with individuals, couples, and families.
My clients come from diverse backgrounds and face a wide range of concerns—trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, infidelity, communication breakdowns, sexual issues, and conflict resolution challenges, just to name a few. No matter the concern, my approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and rooted in a deep respect for each person’s story.
In my work, I draw from several modalities, including but not limited to:
Talk therapy
Self-compassion therapy
Mindfulness practices
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
I am a passionate advocate for racial and LGBTQ+ justice and inclusivity, and I strive to make my practice a safe, affirming space for all.
In 2025, I moved to Costa Rica—a personal dream—and continue to serve my U.S.-based clients via telehealth. I’m also opening my doors to expats living in Costa Rica who may be facing the emotional challenges of relocation and adjustment. While I speak Spanish conversationally, English is my native language.
On a personal note, I’m a proud mom of two wonderful adult children and helped raise three delightful stepchildren. I’m now married to my high school sweetheart, and together we share a home with our two dogs—Logan and Perry (a trained therapy dog)—and three cats (one of whom is particularly mischievous). I love reading, soaking up the sun on the beach, and spending time in nature.
Wherever you are on your journey, I’m here to walk with you.
Perry, the therapy dog, graduated VCU with me. He is sad that I am currently doing telehealth, but loves to drop in on meetings for people who need love bombs from dogs.
I have certifications in:
Fundamentals of Telemental Heath and Ethics Certificate
Mandated Reporting & Child Safety
Unlocking Eating Disorder Recovery
Trauma-focused CBT Web 2.0
DBT
Complex PTSD
Trainings include:
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

I am a member of the American Counseling Association, American Mental Health Counselors Association, Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling, and the International Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
